Routines
In first grade I believe that having routines that are the same every day, or predictable, is a great way for student to feel a sense of security in the classroom. When they know what is coming next students anxiety levels can be brought down.
I plan on beginning every day looking at the calendar, the date, and the weather that day. This is also the time when my students can tell me any exciting news that is happening to them, or anything else that they would like to share with me and/or the class. I also plan to end the day the same way every day.

Id like to give my students time at the end of the day for them to reflect (but I would say “think about” to first graders) on the things that we have learned that day. I would also like to give my students a post it note and have them write or draw on the post it, what “stuck with them” that day. I will have a frame or bulletin board by the door for each student to stick their post it on while they leave the classroom.
