Policies and Procedures
Because my classroom management plan is designed for a first grade classroom, I have created three rules to use. These rules can be associated with Eunice Shriver’s community of caring theory. I believe that having three rules is developmentally appropriate for a first grader and are broad enough so that multiple other rules will fall under the three.
1) Respect your teacher,
2) Respect your classmates
3) Respect your enviornment
2) Respect your classmates
3) Respect your enviornment
Misbehaviors
When dealing with misbehaviors id still like to incorporate choice, so that students feel as if they have the choice to behave or misbehave. The first time the student misbehaves they will receive a verbal warning. The second time a student misbehaves I will give the student the choice to either do what they are suppose to be doing or go to the cool down corner. The cool down corner comes from Ron Nelsons Think Time theory. It is where students are sent or can willingly choose to go to in order to “cool down” or settle down. If the student willingly chooses to go to the cool down corner, they will only have 2 minutes to stay there in order to insure that students are not going there to get out of doing work. If a student is sent to the cool down corner, the student is only allowed to leave after I tell them they are done cooling down. The third time the student misbehaves they will be sent directly to the cool down corner this will also result in a note home to parents. If the behavior persists, then further action will be taken.
